The areas we visit are in the protected space space of the Volcanoes Natural Park, next to the Timanfaya National Park. We make a tour of the lava flows of the penultimate eruptions on Lanzarote in the period from 1730 to 1736 and covered a third of the island. But first, we stop to explain the formation of the islands and eruptive processes in general and Lanzarote in particular, with special attention to the last two eruptions occurred.

On this route we can see the processes and forms created by these eruptions: lava fields, Badlands (AA) and roped lava (Pahoehoe), tunnels, craters and vents. We will better understand this process that buried several villages and valleys of crops as Chimanfaya, Mazo, Santa Catalina, Masintafe o Tingafa, we know and recreate how the original grape cultivation in La Geria was caused and we will enjoy forms and colours that seem taken out of the palette of an artist. Even looking inhospitable, we discover unique species of the wildlife: the Barbary falcon (Falco pelegrinodes), the kestrel (Falco tinnunculus), the raven (Corvus corax canariensis), or the Berthelot’s Pipit (Anthus berthelotii berthelotii) among birds; the lizard of Haria (Gallotia atlantica), the largest reptile; the first colonizers in recent lavas: lichens, with species such as Escán (Ramalina bourgeana) or of the genus Xanthoria. Concerning the plant species we will see the vinagrera o calcosa (Rumex lunaria), the bejeque of malpais (Aeonium lancerottense) or the gongarillo purpurario (Aichryson tortuosum).

We finish the route crossing the protected landscape of La Geria, where we will know a way to cultivate this unique vine in the world.
